Ancient Story, Cutting Edge Opera: Gluck's 'Orfeo ed Euridice'

THE HIT SINGLE: "What Shall I Do Without Euridice?"

In Act Three Orfeo faces the unthinkable, when he breaks his pledge ot Amor, and his wife dies for the second time. Alone again, he sings the gentle yet heartbreaking aria, "Che faro senza Euridice?"

THE B SIDE: Orpheus Calms the Furies

Act Two begins as Orfeo heads into the underworld. Almost immediately, he meets an angry Chorus of Furies, blocking his path, along with the hellish, three-headed watchdog Cerberus. When he appeals to the Furies in song, they at first deny him, with forceful cries of "No!" But eventually, his gentle singing wins the day. The Furies are calmed, and let him pass.
