Brilliance Seldom Heard: Vivaldi's 'The Coronation of Dario'

INTRODUCTION: Lisa Simeone

THE HIT SINGLE: "Sentiro fra ramo e ramo"

Early in Act Three, after Niceno abandons her in the forest, Statira (mezzo-soprano Kristina Hammarström) is lost -- both literally and emotionally -- wandering aimlessly while singing "I go from branch to branch."

THE B SIDE: "Quale a l'onte"

Vivaldi gives some of the opera's most appealing music to secondary characters. At the end of Act One, the counselor Niceno (baritone Riccardo Novaro) is hopelessly in love with Statira, and likens his frustration to that of a "feeble plant."
