Getting an Early Start: Mozart's 'La Finta Semplice'

THE HIT SINGLE:  "Amoretti che ascosi"

The opera's most acclaimed single number is this aria, sung by Rosina (soprano Chen Reiss) in Act Two.  By now deeply embroiled in her plot to see all the right couples get together, she's less than sure she wants to fall in love herself, and sings of "hidden cupids" whose arrows are best avoided.

THE B SIDE:  "Senti l'eco"

Befitting the dominance of her character in the story, Mozart gave Rosina much of the opera's finest music.  In this Act One aria, "Listen to the echo," she considers the problem of love and concludes that when it comes to romance, it's best to give only as much as you're likely to get in return.
